FoxFarm offers two Liquid Trio packs: the Soil Liquid Trio for soil growing and the Hydro Liquid Trio for hydroponic growing. Both contain Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom. The key difference is Grow Big: the soil pack includes regular Grow Big, while the hydro pack includes Grow Big Hydroponic. Choose the pack and feeding schedule that match your growing system.
This guide compares both packs, explains their feeding directions, and answers common questions about mixing, pH and when to begin feeding. Shop either option at CF Hydroponics:
- FoxFarm Soil Liquid Trio Pack: 16 oz, 32 oz and gallon bottle options.
- FoxFarm Hydro Liquid Trio Pack: 16 oz, 32 oz and gallon bottle options.
FoxFarm Soil vs. Hydro Liquid Trio: what is the difference?
| Feature | Soil Liquid Trio | Hydro Liquid Trio |
|---|---|---|
| Intended growing method | Soil growing, using the Soil Feeding Schedule | Hydroponic growing, using the Hydroponic Feeding Schedule |
| Vegetative fertilizer | Grow Big, regular soil formula | Grow Big Hydroponic |
| Other included products | Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom | Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom |
| How to plan feeding | Consider the nutrients already in the potting soil and follow the applicable soil directions. | Use the hydroponic directions and monitor nutrient strength with a conductivity or ppm meter. |
The two Grow Big formulas are not the same product. Do not substitute one formula’s dosing instructions for the other. Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom appear in both packs, so it is inaccurate to describe every ingredient in the soil pack as unsuitable for hydroponics.
What does each bottle in the Trio do?
Big Bloom: plant food for all growth stages
Big Bloom contains earthworm castings and bat guano. FoxFarm states that it can be used throughout all stages of plant growth. It is included in both the Soil and Hydro Liquid Trio packs. Follow the applicable combined feeding chart rather than assuming its standalone dose is the correct dose for every mixture.
Grow Big: choose the soil or hydroponic formula
Regular Grow Big supports vegetative growth and plant structure in the soil program. Grow Big Hydroponic (Contains 2% Calcium(Ca)) is the version supplied in the hydroponic pack. Check the bottle name before measuring, especially if you are replacing an individual bottle rather than buying a complete pack.
Tiger Bloom: fruit and flower development
Tiger Bloom supports fruit, flower and bud development. FoxFarm labels it for both soil and hydroponic applications and directs growers to begin at the first signs of flowering. Use the appropriate feeding chart when combining it with other products.
Which FoxFarm Trio should you buy?
Choose the Soil Liquid Trio if you are following FoxFarm’s soil growing program. Choose the Hydro Liquid Trio if you are following its hydroponic program.
For coco or another soilless medium, do not select a pack from the word “container” alone. Confirm which FoxFarm program applies to your medium, irrigation method and system before buying or feeding.
Choose bottle size according to how much nutrient solution you prepare and how often you feed. Check each product page for current pricing and availability.
Where can you find the FoxFarm Trio feeding schedules?
Use the official FoxFarm feeding schedules. Select the Soil Feeding Schedule for the soil program or the Hydroponic Feeding Schedule for the hydro program. These are different from the Cultivation Nation schedules.
Match the growth stage, product name and units before mixing. A combined feeding chart and an individual bottle’s general directions serve different purposes. Do not add every bottle’s full standalone rate together and assume the result matches the Trio schedule.
Soil Trio feeding: account for your potting mix
Soil can already contain nutrients, so the starting point depends on the growing medium as well as the plant’s stage. FoxFarm’s individual general-feeding directions for regular Grow Big and Tiger Bloom specify every other watering. Its Soil Feeding Schedule says to feed up to twice per week. Use the applicable program and adjust to plant response rather than watering a still-wet pot to meet a calendar date.
Hydro Trio feeding: monitor the nutrient solution
Grow Big Hydroponic’s directions call for use with reservoir changes and recommend a conductivity or ppm meter to monitor nutrient strength. Its published general-feeding rate is 2 teaspoons, or 10 mL, per gallon of water with every reservoir change. This is the individual product’s direction, not a complete three-bottle reservoir recipe.
For a combined Hydro Trio program, follow the Hydroponic Feeding Schedule. Keep measurements consistent and check the solution regularly rather than treating soil watering instructions as hydroponic reservoir instructions.
How much FoxFarm fertilizer do you use per gallon?
The following are FoxFarm’s published individual general-feeding rates. They are reference information, not combined Trio recipes. Follow the current bottle label and the correct multi-product schedule for your system.
| Product | Individual general-feeding rate | Published frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Big Bloom | 4 tablespoons, or 60 mL, per gallon of water | Every other watering |
| Grow Big, regular soil formula | 2–3 teaspoons, or 10–15 mL, per gallon of water | Every other watering |
| Grow Big Hydroponic | 2 teaspoons, or 10 mL, per gallon of water | With every reservoir change |
| Tiger Bloom | 2–3 teaspoons, or 10–15 mL, per gallon of water | Every other watering; separate recirculating-system directions are provided on the product page. |
Watch the units: the Big Bloom general-feeding rate uses tablespoons, while the other entries use teaspoons. Use a dedicated measuring tool. Seedling, heavy-feeding and recirculating-system directions can differ from these general rates.
How do you mix FoxFarm Liquid Trio nutrients?
Add each scheduled fertilizer separately to water. Never combine undiluted concentrates. FoxFarm’s FAQ instructs growers to start with clean water and add products at their recommended doses.
- Choose the Soil or Hydroponic Feeding Schedule that applies to your setup.
- Identify the products and amounts needed for the current growth stage.
- Fill a clean mixing container with the required volume of water.
- Measure and add each scheduled product separately, mixing thoroughly between additions.
- Check the finished solution’s pH and adjust according to the applicable directions. For hydroponics, monitor conductivity or ppm as directed.
- Apply or use the solution according to your program, then monitor plant response.
Both packs contain three bottles, but that does not mean all three are required at every feeding. This guide does not prescribe an unsupported bottle order beyond adding products separately to water.
What pH should you use for the Soil and Hydro Trios?
Use the directions for your specific product, medium and feeding program rather than one universal target. Check the finished nutrient solution after adding fertilizer.
For the soil program, FoxFarm’s Soil Feeding Schedule lists pH 5.6–6.8. For Grow Big Hydroponic, the product directions specify a nutrient-solution pH of 5.8–6.3. Tiger Bloom’s product page also specifies 5.8–6.3 for its nutrient solution. FoxFarm’s general FAQ discusses soil and growing-media pH separately, so those references should not be treated as interchangeable measurements.
Grow Big and Tiger Bloom are formulated with a low pH. Measure how they affect your water instead of assuming an adjustment is always needed. If your bottle and combined schedule give conflicting instructions for your setup, ask FoxFarm which instruction to follow.
When should you start feeding in Ocean Forest soil?
This applies to the soil program, not hydroponic reservoirs. FoxFarm states that Ocean Forest feeds for about three to four weeks. During that period, growers can use plain water or Big Bloom for extra nutrition. After about three to four weeks, FoxFarm recommends beginning a fertilizer appropriate to the plant’s growth stage.
Consider when the plant entered the Ocean Forest medium and its previous feeding. Do not apply this timing automatically to other potting mixes or soilless systems.
How can you avoid overfeeding with either Trio?
Measure accurately, choose the correct Grow Big formula, and account for the entire feeding program before adding supplements. FoxFarm advises adjusting fertilization rates to plant response. Less is more, quarter-strength or half-strength rate is recommended for first time usage to avoid over fertilization. Weekly growth rates will differ based on environment and my not line up with weekly growth rate on set schedule.
For soil, review nutrients already present in the mix, moisture conditions and the applicable flushing instructions. For hydroponics, monitor nutrient strength and pH using the equipment and directions specified for your system. Do not carry over a soil flushing routine to a reservoir without checking the hydroponic program.
A leaf-color change alone does not prove that a plant needs more fertilizer. Review growing conditions before increasing nutrient strength. Avoid adding Cal-Mag or bloom boosters automatically without checking the plant’s needs, water, medium and existing nutrient program.
